Daniel Day Lewis will without a doubt, go down as one of our century’s best film actors. His highly meditated and extraordinary performances in films such as Last of the Mohicans, The Boxer, Nine, Gangs of New York, and There Will Be Blood have earned him countless of awards, respect and admiration from his fellow peers.
Now, having teamed up with Steven Spielberg for the new film Lincoln, Lewis will embark on capturing our country’s most historic President. Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin‘s book, Spielberg will focus on the last few months of Lincoln’s life, the abolishment of slavery, and the end of the Civil War. Lincoln will not be shown as a larger than life relic simply posing for history books, but instead a man at work, with sleeves rolled up, and a professional demeanor aimed to change the course of American life.
The film is slated for a November 16, 2012 release and will feature Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens, Jared Harris as Ulysses S. Grant, and Jackie Earle Haley as Alexander Stephens. Among this superb cast will be several more notable actors sprinkled throughout.
For those of you wondering about a certain head trauma by an infamous John Wilkes Booth, there is still no word on whether or not that will be part of the film.
