Beth Orton is gearing up to release her first album in six-years on October 2nd via ANTI. The album’s titled, Sugaring Season and calls on producer Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Mudhoney, The Decemberists) to help bring it to life. The album seems to be more of an introspective piece that delves deep into the psyche of Ms. Orton and offers up a fresh take on songwriting as well as her voice.
Beth explains, “I stretched myself as a singer on this record and used voices I never have before as a writer,” she explains. “A lot of the writing on this record happened in the dead of night, when spiders mend their webs, with an infant asleep in the next room… as a result, my writing became a secret again: illicit and my own.”
Set to the tone of haunting pianos, the record “Something More Beautiful” clearly expresses the sense of sadness and loneliness through the lyrics. She paints pictures with her words, bringing you into her world for that moment. Her voice cannot be ignored, for it contains far more emotion than one can overlook, a highly anticipated album for us here at Leveled Magazine, and one that you should definitely look out for.
