Scarlett Johansson has a pretty kickass resume. She’s rocked the gambit appearing in both major blockbuster movies and delicate indies. By god, I mean the woman was in three Woody Allen films. She has been the face of Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton ad campaigns and made a record of Tom Waits covers. We are talking well above average here, folks.
And now please add two-time Broadway star to the list.
This winter, Scarlett Johansson will make her return to Great White Way in Tennessee Williams‘, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. In the fifth Broadway revival of the beloved American classic, Johansson will reprise the role of the feisty and ever left wanting, Maggie the Cat. The character, best epitomized by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1958 film version, is a lynchpin in a tale laden with familial deceit and decay, greed, repression and death. The play oozes with sexual yearning and we watch as Maggie the Cat twists, aches and writhes for her husband’s touch in the scorching Mississippi heat. Benjamin Walker, no stranger to the stage, will star as her husband, Brick, the despondent former football-hero with only the drink left to comfort him. The lead in 2010’s Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, Walker reportedly beat out some heavy hitter names to land the role. Character actor, Ciaran Hinds and Debra Monk help to round out the cast.
“I am so thrilled to return to Broadway and feel incredibly fortunate to be doing so with [director] Rob Ashford and such gifted actors,” the actress said.
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will head into previews in December and the anticipated opening is set for January 17th at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
