R.Ring: Kelley Deal & Mike Montgomery

Mark your calendars, kids. October 30th is the day. Kelley Deal and Mike Montgomery’s band, R. Ring will release their debut 7” via Misra Records. Let me paint the picture for you:  Kelley Deal, badass rocker, knitter and beloved daughter of Ohio has teamed up with Candyland Studios co-owner and Ampline’s guitarist, Mike Montgomery to gift us with tasty songs of beauty and fracture. The duo unites Deal’s unmistakable perfectly poppy-teen-dream-go-fuck-yourself-and-gimmie-a-cigarette croon with stripped down guitar playing and occasional keys. “R. Ring is sparse, chaotic, abrasive and lulling, often within the same song.”

Although the band has been slinging homemade offerings while out on tour this past summer, like limited-run wood burned, hand-made cases for their CDs, this 7” will be their first official offering. “Fallout & Fire” b/w “See” can be pre-ordered here and will make you throw up with goodness. Promise.

And note to self: that is the drumming dexterity of Clevelander and professional skateboarder Kristan Svitak heard on “See”. Svitak, founder of 1031 skateboards, recently featured the band’s cover of DEVO’s “Mr. DNA” for the re-edit of his sick skate video from 2004.
